1973 saw the beginning of a special era in the NU OU rivalry as the "bootleggers" boy Barry Switzer took over as the swashbuckling head man of the Sooners, and the Nebraska Native son and straight-shooter Tom Osborne took the reigns from coach Devaney. Both were promising protege's entrusted by their predecessors and respected by their players and coaches. Over the course of the next 16 years so many Thanksgiving Classics took place with the Big 8 Championship, a chance to play for the National Championship, and the collective hopes of their respective states, all riding on the outcome of a 60 minute battle. Following coach Switzers departure to coach the Cowboys, coach Osborne continued to thrive, taking NU to the pinnacle of college football. Both coaches had significant life accomplishments after their stints leading the Big Reds, but nothing can overshadow the epic clashes that captivated a nationwide audience for those 16 special years. 26 by 12 inch framed with UV protected glass, acid resistant triple matting, 8 by 10 hand signed photograph, career achievements brass plates, and each coaches hand drawn base option plays that defined the style of the era.
